about "Japanese Association of Eastern Medicine"
【Establishment of the Japanese Association of Eastern Medicine】
The Japanese Association of Eastern Medicine was established in 1973 (Showa 48) with an 80-hour acupuncture training course called "Acupuncture Seminar for Physicians," organized by Dr. Yoshio Manaka. Subsequently, the participants of that seminar continued their activities under the name "MSA (Medical Study of Acupuncture)." Later, in an effort to expand their learning to include other areas such as herbal medicine, the name was changed to "Medical Oriental Medicine Research Association." This led to seminars inviting practitioners of traditional Chinese medicine from China to participate. Owing to issues related to the scope of qualifications and scale, the association evolved into two branches, resulting in the establishment of the Japanese Association of Eastern Medicine in 1983 (Showa 58), with Dr. Yoshio Manaka serving as its president.

【Current Activities】
Currently, we aim to facilitate the exchange between Eastern Medicine, which has developed based on East Asian traditional medicine such as Chinese medicine, Korean medicine, and Japanese Kampo, as well as Indian traditional medicine represented by Ayurveda and Arabic traditional medicine represented by Unani, and modern Western medicine. In addition to providing a regular academic research platform, we support the practical application of treatments and research recognized as "valid" at academic conferences to society, as well as the education and information dissemination to physicians and healthcare professionals in this field, which has not received sufficient education and training until now. Our activities include the publication of the academic journal "Eastern Medicine," the annual academic conference held once a year, and various monthly seminars, among other initiatives.
- Hosting an annual academic conference
- Conducting seminars
- Publishing the academic information journal "Eastern Medicine" (first published in 1983)
- Publishing the Japanese version of the "Journal of Integrative Medicine," Chūsei I Ketsugō" (1990-2002)

- From a conference for doctors and healthcare professionals to a conference that includes the general public.
The members of this society consist largely of practicing physicians who focus on treatment and evidence-based approaches for intractable diseases, particularly cancer and collagen diseases. In recent years, there has been a movement to scientifically validate the effectiveness of Eastern medicine, including traditional Chinese and Japanese medicine. However, it is recognized that proving the effectiveness of concepts such as 'Qi' is challenging in modern science. Therefore, we are attempting to clarify the utility of these treatments by demonstrating improvements or cures for these difficult diseases through modern Western medicine. Of course, this must not be merely an anecdotal case report of spontaneous cures; the treatments must be clearly validated with a certain probability. The primary mission of practicing physicians is to improve patients' conditions, and we strongly hope that scientific validation of effectiveness will be clarified to the extent possible thereafter.
